KUALA LUMPUR — Indonesian state Islamic higher education institutions are intensifying efforts to expand their global footprint. Moving beyond local academic confines, the Faculty of Islamic Economics and Business (FEBI) at Sjech M. Djamil Djambek State Islamic University (UIN) Bukittinggi presented its international vision at the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities of a prominent Malaysian university on Friday, June 19, 2026.
The strategic meeting was attended by executives and academics from both institutions. For FEBI UIN Bukittinggi, the formal forum served as a crucial platform to deliberate on its long-term master plan: becoming an internationally reputable center for Islamic economics and business by 2047, while remaining grounded in Islamic values.
The UIN Bukittinggi delegation was led by Dr. Era Sonita, the Vice Dean for Academic Affairs. Sonita noted that selecting a social sciences and humanities faculty as a dialogue partner was a tactical step to foster interdisciplinary integration, particularly in analyzing contemporary economic phenomena through a broader socio-religious lens.
"This official meeting reflects our commitment to ensuring that the Three Pillars of Higher Education (Tridarma) implemented at FEBI meet international standards," Sonita said. "We are bringing this vision to the global stage to ensure alignment with international demands, ranging from human resource development to impactful collaborative research," she explained.
The cross-border academic engagement was facilitated and coordinated by UIN Bukittinggi’s Center for International Affairs.
Dr. Irwandi, Head of the Center for International Affairs, emphasized that the socialization program was part of a structured framework rather than a standalone visit.
"FEBI’s internationalization efforts here are built upon a formal Letter of Intent (LoI) and a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) previously signed between UIN Bukittinggi and Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM). This activity concrete execution of that macro-level commitment at the faculty level," Irwandi said.
Separately, FEBI Dean Aidil Alfin, Ph.D., underscored that promoting the institutional vision through official international forums directly correlates with quality assurance. In modern higher education management, a globally oriented vision must be supported by practical execution in the field.
"Our goal is clear: achieving an international reputation by 2047. This program in Malaysia is part of our strategy to gain international recognition," Alfin said.
"We are benchmarking and aligning our curriculum in Islamic economics, management, business, and accounting to ensure that what we develop in Bukittinggi remains competitive and relevant when compared with global institutions, " Alfin added.
The initiative received strong support from the university's top leadership. UIN Bukittinggi Rector Prof. Dr. Silfia Hanani expressed appreciation for FEBI’s accelerated internationalization efforts.
According to her, FEBI’s proactive approach to seizing international opportunities contributes significantly to elevating the profile of UIN Bukittinggi as a whole.
"The institutional transformation toward global recognition requires bold initiatives, and FEBI has demonstrated that through this official meeting," Prof. Silfia added.
Through this regional collaboration, FEBI UIN Bukittinggi continues to strengthen its institutional positioning, advancing its mission to contribute to the global Islamic economic landscape from its base in West Sumatra.
