Bridging Revelation and Algorithms: FST UIN Bukittinggi's Global Scientific Leap
BUKITTINGGI — Amidst the relentless pace of technological disruption and artificial intelligence expanding seemingly without moral boundaries, mounting anxieties over the loss of human-centric values have taken center stage. Yet, an answer to this global unease has emerged from an unlikely epicenter: the highlands of West Sumatra.
On Tuesday, September 22, 2026, the Faculty of Science and Technology (FST) at UIN Sjech M. Djamil Djambek Bukittinggi marked a historic milestone by hosting the inaugural 1st Bukittinggi International Conference on Science and Technology (BICoST). Championed by university leadership, the institution boldly tackled a critical paradigm shift often overlooked by the modern world: fusing cutting-edge science with Islamic values.
Today's world races fiercely toward data efficiency, mathematical modeling, and smart automation. However, such progress frequently advances without an ethical compass. Acknowledging this vital vacuum, FST Dean Assoc. Prof. Dr. M. Imamuddin, M.Pd., emphasized that the core theme, Advancing Data, Mathematics, and Intelligent Technology through Islamic Values and Scientific Excellence, was chosen with deliberate intent.
"We want to ensure that scientific leaps march hand-in-hand with moral pillars," Imamuddin stated during his opening remarks, delivered on behalf of UIN Bukittinggi Rector Prof. Dr. Silfia Hanani.
In his compelling presentation titled From Revelation to Algorithms, Imamuddin traced how the historical evolution of human knowledge demands a sophisticated synthesis between sacred texts—the Qur'an and Hadith—and modern mathematical frameworks. This approach received robust global reinforcement from Malaysian expert Assoc. Prof. Dr. Norma Alias, the lecturer of Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM). Utilizing The Tawhidi Epistemological Framework, she dissected how artificial intelligence governance urgently requires a foundational anchor in Tawhid, ensuring that advanced technologies do not compromise humanity, but instead yield profound blessings for mankind.
BICoST is far from a mere exercise in philosophical rhetoric. The conference presented grounded, cross-disciplinary research directly tackling contemporary challenges.
For Indonesia, sitting squarely along the volatile Ring of Fire, Prof. Dr. Sri Harini, from UIN Maulana Malik Ibrahim Malang delivered a pivotal session. Utilizing Spatial Clustering methodology, she offered applied mathematical solutions to map earthquake-prone regions based on magnitude and depth, serving as a critical data-driven instrument for disaster mitigation.
Equally compelling, audience attention shifted toward digital psychological dimensions as Prof. S. Vimal from KIT - Kalaignarkarunanidhi Institute of Technology in Coimbatore, India, showcased his research on Emotion Analytics. He demonstrated how sophisticated computing can bridge human emotions with artificial systems, opening unprecedented horizons across healthcare, education, and the creative industries. The intellectual discourse reached a harmonious climax with sustainable finance insights from Assoc. Prof. Dr. Omar Mohamed Taha Alkana of Jordan, who explored Islamic finance as a catalyst for resilient infrastructure amid global economic and environmental crises.
The tightly paced conference demonstrated a resounding truth: state Islamic higher education institutions are fully prepared to take the driver's seat in global scientific discourse.
The success of BICoST 2026 not only solidifies FST UIN Bukittinggi's standing as a center of excellence, but also sends an optimistic message to the world stage.
