UIN Bukittinggi Expands Academic Network at AIUA Forum
JAKARTA — State Islamic University (UIN) Sjech M. Djamil Djambek Bukittinggi continues to strengthen its international presence. During the Asian Islamic Universities Association (AIUA) Forum held at UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta from Wednesday to Thursday (24-25/6/2026), UIN Bukittinggi officially signed strategic cooperation agreements with six prominent universities from Thailand and Malaysia, as well as several domestic Islamic institutions.
The UIN Bukittinggi delegation was led by vice rector for student affairs, alumni, and cooperation Dr. Edi Rosman, accompanied by the head of the International Relations Center, Dr. Irwandi. This progressive step underscores the university's commitment to accelerating its transformation toward global recognition.
The six new international partners include the International Islamic College Bangkok (IICB), Ibn Auf Institute of Technology (IIT), and Yala Rajabhat University from Thailand. Meanwhile, the Malaysian partners comprise Universiti Sultan Azlan Shah, the Darul Ridzuan Islamic Skills Institute (IKDAR), and Sultan Ismail Petra International Islamic University College (KIAS) Kelantan.
Irwandi emphasized that this engagement is more than just a formality. As an official member of the AIUA, UIN Bukittinggi is strongly committed to remaining active in every tactical agenda of the association.
"UIN Bukittinggi consistently takes an active role and moves dynamically alongside transnational Islamic universities under the AIUA banner," Irwandi said on the sidelines of the forum.
Established in April 2015 through the Riau Declaration during the Islamic University Rectors Conference in Pekanbaru, the AIUA has grown into a major hub for Islamic university networks in the region. It consolidates academic strengths across Indonesia, Malaysia, Brunei Darussalam, Thailand, the Philippines, and Cambodia.
The new synergy is projected to be immediately implemented through four main cooperative programs aimed at boosting global competitiveness. These programs include the Islamic Quality Assurance (IQA) for international quality standardization, student and lecturer exchange programs, international research collaboration and joint journal publication, and the Roundtable Conference (RTC)—an annual rectors' forum to formulate policy directions for Islamic education in Asia.
UIN Bukittinggi rector Prof. Silfia Hanani stated that through this multilateral cooperation, the implementation of the Tri Dharma (the three pillars of higher education) at UIN Bukittinggi is now firmly on the internationalization roadmap.
This step also serves as a bridge to bring inclusive Islamic values from Minangkabau to the global stage.
