Organized by the International Office under the university’s Research and Community Service Institute (LPPM), the two-day capacity-building workshop runs from Thursday to Friday (Oct 1–2). The initiative aims to equip academics with two core elements of modern scientific inquiry: the ethical deployment of artificial intelligence (AI) and the publishing of scholarly monographs with internationally reputable presses.
Speaking at the opening, Rector Prof. Dr. Silfia Hanani emphasized that accelerating academic internationalization requires a bold and adaptive institutional culture.
"Amid rapid technological advancements, faculty members must accelerate research output, expand global networks, and solidify our academic contributions worldwide without compromising scholarly ethics and moral integrity," Prof. Silfia said.
AI-Driven Research and Global Monograph Publishing
On the first day of training, Prof. Dr. Novel Lyndon, a distinguished professor from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM), delivered sessions on utilizing AI tools smartly, pragmatically, and ethically. He underscored that artificial intelligence serves as an analytical accelerator to boost researchers' global competitiveness, rather than a substitute for human intuition and critical thinking.
"The primary challenge for today's scholars is no longer sourcing data, but navigating an information deluge. AI acts as an auxiliary tool for literature mapping and synthesis, but the scholarly substance and originality of ideas remain firmly with the researcher," Prof. Novel noted.
The workshop continues on Friday with dedicated clinical mentorship on international book publishing led by Dr. Junaidi Awang Besar, a senior academic and expert from UKM.
Dr. Junaidi Awang Besar is providing direct guidance to UIN Bukittinggi lecturers on navigating international publishing standards, refining high-citation monograph manuscripts, and placing works with leading global academic publishers. Authoring globally recognized books is considered a crucial milestone for academic authority, directly strengthening the university’s international ranking and standing.
Building a Global Reputation Ecosystem
The intensive two-day program has established four foundational pillars to anchor UIN Bukittinggi’s internationalization drive:
1. Digital Integrity: Adopting transparent, accountable, and plagiarism-free frameworks for AI-assisted literature synthesis and research mapping.
2. International Publications: Providing hands-on mentorship to craft high-impact scholarly monographs, cementing faculty expertise globally.
3. Cross-Border Collaboration: Establishing regional and international research consortia and collaborative publication networks.
4. Academic Leadership: Structuring research priorities to ensure tangible social impact, civilization contributions, and international recognition.
Through synchronized institutional leadership, active engagement by the International Office, and expert mentorship from regional partners, UIN Bukittinggi is steadily solidifying its vision as an inclusive, transformative, and globally recognized Islamic higher education institution.(IRWANDI)
