UIN Bukittinggi Students Learn Academic Writing Skills from UKM Scholar
BUKITTINGGI — Strengthening academic insights and expanding the global reach of scholarly ideas requires a thorough understanding of the philosophy and methodology of writing. Driven by this objective, hundreds of students from the Islamic Accounting Study Program at the Faculty of Islamic Economics and Business (FEBI), State Islamic University (UIN) Sjech M. Djamil Djambek Bukittinggi, attended an International Guest Lecture on Scientific Writing in Bukittinggi, West Sumatra, on Friday (Oct 2).

The event, organized by the university's International Office Center in collaboration with the Islamic Accounting Program, featured Dr. Junaidi Awang Besar, a scholar from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM), as the keynote speaker.
In his presentation, Dr Junaidi emphasized that scientific writing is not merely a procedural requirement for academic graduation, but a vital platform for incubating ideas to advance human civilization. He noted that academic writing carries a deep philosophical relationship connecting the Creator, the universe, the writer, and the reader.
Within the context of Islamic scholarly traditions, exegesis (tafsir) and the Prophetic traditions (Hadith) represent the pinnacle of scientific references.
"Therefore, every scientific writer must thoroughly grasp the basic paradigm and philosophy of writing before constructing their ideas," Dr Junaidi said.
Integrity and Critical Thinking Beyond methodology
Dr. Junaidi highlighted the importance of ethics and cognitive traits in a researcher. The core foundation of an academic writer lies in sincerity when uncovering ultimate truth, academic honesty, and social responsibility. Critical thinking, creativity, environmental awareness, objectivity, and pragmatism are essential prerequisites for producing work that yields public benefit.
"Academic writers are required to be both realistic and idealistic. The ideas presented must reflect a commitment to national progress," he added.
Converting Theses into Books
The lecture also provided students with practical guidance on adapting academic works, such as undergraduate and postgraduate theses, into accessible books for the general public.

Dr. Junaidi explained that transforming a thesis into a book requires fundamental adjustments in language style, structure, and target audience.
The rigid, formal language typical of a thesis should be adapted into a clearer, more engaging, and conversational tone without compromising academic rigor. Furthermore, the structure should shift from a strict research framework to a narrative focused on core substance and general reader appeal.
UIN Bukittinggi Rector, Prof Dr Silfia, expressed hope that this cross-border academic forum would spark a robust writing culture among FEBI students and accelerate the publication of internationally recognized scientific works from the institution.(IRWANDI)
